Tracy Madrick Keith's Bio

Dr. Tracy Madrick Keith was born on June 1, 1965, in Murray, Kentucky. She lived in Chicago, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Northern Kentucky during her lifetime and was a graduate of Purdue University (Bachelor's), Virginia Tech (Master's), and the University of Cincinnati (PhD) where she studied nutrition and physiology before beginning a research career specializing in women’s heart health. Several years later, however, she decided to take a break from work to focus on raising her family. She was an active member of the many different communities she was a part of, including her church, her neighborhood, her children’s schools and sports teams, and in a variety of volunteer and advocacy groups such as Go Red for Women and Kindervelt of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Tracy was a very health conscious person and had a passion for fitness, exercising 3-4 times a week. One day while working out, she felt a "small pain" in her abdomen area. Soon thereafter, she visited her doctor who ordered a scan to be done. The scan revealed that she had stage 4 cancerous tumors (known as advanced or metastatic cancer) in her ovaries.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Tracy once again took on the role of advocate and volunteer and began working with the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati. She also traveled to Washington, DC, with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (OCRFA), a national organization that works to increase scientific research relating to ovarian cancer, to meet with senators and push for increased NIH funding and reform.  She was awarded the Carolyn Pultz Brown Leadership Award for her hard work and dedication.

Tragically, Tracy lost her 3-year battle with ovarian cancer on July 25, 2017, in Los Angeles, California, surrounded by family and friends. She will always be remembered for her impressive intellect, unwavering faith and devotion, and heartening resilience (and her ability to throw a great party!) by all those who were lucky enough to know her.

Teal We Find a Cure was created by friends and family in Tracy’s honor.

Tracy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Tony Keith, her children, Jordan (24), Bailey (22), and Maxwell (18), her parents, Ron and Sherry Madrick, her siblings, Ron Madrick, Jr. (Ann), Teri Wing (Wade), Kay Howard (Derek), and John Paul Madrick (Maggie), and her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and many friends.

How It All Started

Our inaugural event in 2018, we raised $15,000 for the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati to celebrated the life of Tracy Madrick Keith, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend who championed the cause of ovarian cancer research from the time of her diagnosis until she lost her battle with the disease in 2017.

In 2019 and 2020, we donated $30,000 each year and $50,000 in 2021, $75,000 in 2022 and $65,000 in 2023 to benefit the new St. Elizabeth Cancer Center.  We made a commitment of $250,000 for the designation of the Center for Gynecologic Cancer Care in which this area is named after Tracy Madrick Keith.  In September 2023, we fulfilled our commitment of $250,000.

The center opened in October, 2020, right here in Northern Kentucky on the current St. Elizabeth campus.  This center is the largest comprehensive cancer center in our region. They built the cancer center around clinical research programs that will include trials of the latest drugs, which might not be available in other hospitals for years. They are offering cancer patients access to specialized physicians who are committed to research and cutting-edge therapeutics.  We feel that this new cancer center will save countless lives of cancer patients in Northern Kentucky.
